”It takes years to build trust but only a second to break it.”
He told me that I broke his heart and that he was very disappointed in me.
I told him I couldn’t blame him.
I couldn’t even express how sorry I am for that one little slip. I know he could find in his heart to forgive me, but I know he meant it when he said he will never trust me again.
This is ironic because I know first hand that love cannot exist without trust. I know he meant it when he said that there will be no more next time because he won’t give it to me.
So sorry. He doesn’t deserve me.
***I know for someone who just screwed up, I have no right to be happy for at least of 48 hours. But in fairness, I was already writing this post when the Great Disaster happened so I decided to post it just the same (or perhaps I just needed to gloat badly).
The Ateneo Blue Eagles tasted their first defeat in the claws of the UST Tigers! Lord, it feels wonderful to write that sentence. I know that on the first round, the Eagles have annihilated the Tigers with an ultra convincing 36-point lead. But revenge is so goddamn sweet!
For the second round game, everybody was expecting them to win again. They had a clean no-loss card and they were at the top of the pack. They had a complete line up and all their players are in perfect health.
The Tigers, on the other hand, were handicapped because Duncil just came out of the hospital and Espiritu were down with typhoid fever. Those two are the leading scorers of the team.
All odds were against the Tigers and the future looked bleak for them.
I faithfully watched the whole game with no expectations. No, I’m not being honest here. I was expecting the Eagles to break away, to get another huge lead from us. It shames me to feel this way, but I did stuck it through with them. I always say that if the Tigers goes down, I will go down with them.
The whole game I was holding my breath. I swear, my color were close to blue because of lack oxygen intake. But my team refused to go down.
They kept on scoring and scoring. When the buzzer announcing the last two minutes of the game has come, Chris Tiu of Ateneo sunk a three-pointer and I thought that was the end of it.
Last ten seconds of the game and Ateneo still had that annoying three point lead. There were no Duncils to attempt a three point. The Eagles fouled Ababou. He made the first free throw but missed the second one.
Yellow and white shirts scrambled for the ball with the last eight seconds. Evangelista rebounded and got fouled. With a smile on his face, he completed the free throws.
Thus, the Tigers tied with Ateneo so they had to go for the overtime.
The way they wore their hearts on their sleeves made me believe that they are really going to do it. They are going to win.
They did.
Commentator Boom Gonzales who all throughout the game was not convinced that the Tigers could make it said that the Tigers must play a near-perfect game to win this one out.
I guess they did.
Viva! Tomasino! Arriba!
