On comfort

It’s the worn-out jeans, the overused sneakers, the soft plush chair, the bed on your bedroom, the money in your wallet, the old computer program, the favorite resto, the rich creamy chocolate, the steamy hot coffee, the specialty food of your mom, the drive on a well-paved road, the miscellaneous savings on your bank account, the life insurance in your name, the perfect racquet, the taraflex court, the sincere smile behind the cash register, the familiar friends, the tight hugs from relatives, the kiss from a loved one, the genuine concern of other people for your welfare, the mindless bantering between friends, the validation that you needed to hear, and the belief of other people in your strength.

In the office it’s Ritche’s regular ‘trips’ to the water dispenser, Ruey’s yakking every Wednesday, the noisy creaking of Sir Lito’s chair, Joyce’s wardrobe display everyday, Maui’s pavlova cake, Y!M conversations with Pammy while she’s sitting two steps away from me, Ate Chubs in-charge of all the full pages and the major stories, Gibbs’ doing the ‘final’ look, dinner time with my favorite officemates, photos of columnists arriving on time, and finishing work early.

I like this comfort thing. It doesn’t exactly make me feel head over heels ecstatic, but it helps me breath easier and makes my sleep sounder.
