I feel like I won the lottery today. I was too sleepy to celebrate yesterday.

Finally, my THESIS IS FINISHED! It’s funny how 17 years of education would all come down into a single paperwork. Anyways, my suffering is over…

I was scared at first that my adviser would not approve my thesis because I was two-hour late for my appointment. Thank god, her two other advisees did not show up. I spent the next three hours squirming beside her.

She signed my thesis card with this comment: “Student has the capability to work on her own with very minor supervision”.

Somehow, I get the feeling that she’s still resentful that I only consulted her thrice.

Me and Shayn went to Ateneo today to check the photo exhibit of that contest that I joined in.

One security guard gave us bad direction. It was so bad that we had to circle around a building, when really, the place we’re looking for is right across him. We found the exhibit without asking for further directions.

I swear, I saw my photos 15 feet away.

Anyways, we were a meter away from the exhibit when a girl approached us with strips of paper.

Remembering my previous fiasco, I promised to myself that I will not speak unless necessary. This girl, who resembles Lille gave a small sales talk.

“Are you from here? We are having a photo contest. You can vote for your favorite photo for two pesos. All the proceeds will go to the victims of Mindanao.”

I smiled. Pretending to search my wallet.

”Are you from here?”

Silence. Still searching for something in my wallet.

”You can see our controversial phallic symbols.” She sweeps her hand in a grand gesture of presenting MY photographs.

I tried to keep my mouth from turning extremely upward. Good, my babies are being promoted the way freaks are advertised in circus!

I swear, I was really tempted to say to her that, “Really? They’re mine eh.” Kaya lang, I thought it would be fun to see other people’s reaction, while we remain incognito.

Ha! A few seconds later, a gay professor gushed and said to another professor sitting on the bench.

Estudyante mo ito noh? (This is the work of your student noh?)”

I stopped myself from laughing hard when the person he was addressing to, proudly replied,

Oo nga, alam mo naman yun, he’ll do everything to win. (Yes, you know him, he’ll do anything to win)”

If he only knew the truth…

There was a judge grading the photos. I couldn’t help craning my neck to see the scores, kaya lang, embarrassment preceded me.

Shayn tried to keep away from the photos just in case somebody recognized her from one of the shots. We left ten minutes later just in case somebody found us out.

We bought twenty pesos worth of tickets. So if entry number 37 won the People’s Choice Award, it’s all because of us.

I’m on high. I’m satisfied na talaga. Of course, I’m still hoping that I’ll win kaya lang, parang masaya na ako sa mga reaksyon nila kanina. Nakakatuwa. Nagustuhan ng mga tao ang babies ko! Hee hee.

Pero siyempre, I have to face the reality that there were a lot of other good entries too. Sobra…

My favorite would have to be “Phantasm”. I’ll describe it as best as I can. The whole frame was dark and there was a model guy. The only visible parts of his body were his face and torso. The photographer used a double exposure, thus creating an effect where the model leaves his face at a higher point.

Another favorite was the one made by a La Sallian. The POV of the photo came from a high-rise building. Nighttime. Tapos, he took a shot of the scene below, thus the fast-moving vehicles looked like long white lines in the photo.

My last favorite photo would be the one with a face of woman overlapping a bark of a tree. It was beautiful, at the same time, eerie.

I wouldn’t mind losing to these people. But I swear, I’ll throw a fit if that **** wins!

We looked for T’s entry. Pam said it featured J. It wasn’t there.
