Remembering the Titans…

“In Greek Mythology the Titans were more powerful than the gods.”

Yeah, and where are they now?

“Was it for the team, or was it for you”
If I were Denzel Washington in that movie, my reply would be, “You’re white. You never experienced establishment doors being slammed in your face just because of your color. We on the other hand, have to be the best to be accepted.”

*********

I’m sorry. Movies like Remembering the Titans gets to me. When I went to Videocity to borrow a vcd, I chose this one because my adviser in Tomcat used to tell me about the movie’s technical quality. After watching it, I forgot about correct camera handling and picture quality, all I saw was black and white together.
*********

The movie also proved a long-standing theory of mine. To unite two opposing parties, create a common enemy.
On the first part, The enemy of the black and white football players is the character Denzel plays, Coach Boom (or was it Boon?). Later their mutual nemesis became something bigger. The players struggled against a prejudiced society.

*********

In a nutshell, Remembering the Titans is about a high school accepting black students for the first time. This also means an interracial football team. Team practices could have easily turned into a riot, instead, the stadium became a sanctuary. All because of the strict training of the coach. The stadium became a place where the color of your skin doesn’t matter, but your skill does.
Yes, it’s another movie romanticizing sports. But the beauty of this one is finding peace in a violent sport. It’s sappy, it’s corny, and it’s great.

Last na ito… “Attitude reflects Leadership”
How I wish my stupid classmate could watch the movie and learn from it.
