Goodbye 25
If people can usually get away with giving me with just one gift for my birthday and Christmas, then I can get away with an 11-day late post.
To share something of what I did the past year, I made a list.
My 25 “that’s something” the past year.
I think Sofia the Poodle is a lesbian. I caught her humping Maia the other day. This is the same dog who breastfed my kitten. I’m thinking of bringing her to a psychologist just so she could sort her issues out.
1) Patrick’s shoulders. It’s my favorite place in the universe.
2) February 1, 2007, for as long as I live, as long as I don’t get Alzheimer’s, I will not forget this date.
3) Telling my mom and tatay that Pat is my boyfriend.
4) My “Little Miss Growling Tigers” t-shirt from Ross and Patricia. I haven’t worn this yet, but I will.
5) My birthday celebration at the Settlement House of Asociacion de Damas de Filipinas. Most of my friends came, even from grade school.
6) My annual Baguio trip with my classmates.
7) Videoke with Japs Cuan and newspaper dance with Dylan Ababou
8) When Jervy Cruz recognized me in a big crowd in this year’s Paskuhan, never mind that he called me “ma’am.” I liked his girlfriend. I hope they stay together.
9) The launching of Inquirer Read Along and its subsequent success. It’s like watching a baby turn into a lady.
10) When I made steps to end my financial debts.
11) Being confined in Asian Hospital for almost a week. The hospital was sosyal but UTI was no fun.
12) Reunion with my B3 classmates and blackmailing Bong Malong to be the official photographer or videographer of my wedding day.
13) Getting drunk in Kathy’s house. I got cranky because they woke me when I clearly told them to let me sleep. Seeing Shayn and Kathy tensed up because of my rudeness was priceless.
14) Halloween Party at Marisse’s house. Every year just gets better.
15) Gabby’s birthday party at The Government, dancing inside the cage was awesome and I couldn’t wait to do it again. Too bad the boys were not into me. Hehe.
16) Experiencing Imax for the first time with Leidy and Shayn by watching “Harry Potter: Order of the Phoenix”
17) The discussion of “Deathly Hallows” over coffee at Serendra with Ciejei, Marisse, Shayn, and Leidy. Poor Patrick spent his time browsing the net.
18) Shopping for lingerie with Bunny at Eastwood. Experiencing death by chocolate with Bunny’s help.
19) Organizing an Alumni Association for UST Sports. More to come next year.
20) UAAP cheerdance competition with the Wasakrew and C5 friends. Ours were the only table where the maroons and the yellows were eating jovially.
21) Riding a jetski for an hour.
22) I interviewed Reality TV king and queen Rob and Amber.
23) Meeting Kobe Bryant.
24) I interviewed the animator of Dory of “Finding Nemo”—Gini Cruz-Santos and “Surf’s Up” Armand Serrano—both Thomasians, may I add.
25) Having Patrick in my life.
******A quarter of my life gone and if by chance you’re wondering where I spent most of my 25 years, I have a ready answer. I spent immeasurable amount of time inside UST. Running around in playgrounds, chasing campus cagers, stalking crushes inside the library, eating isaw in Asturias, trudging the infamous floods, worrying about my thesis, dreaming about great jobs and traveling to different places, crossing the Arch of the Centuries in the hopes I will time travel.
Twenty-five years later, four years after graduating, I’m with a group of fellow alumni organizing a group that will support the university’s sports department. To borrow Mela’s words, I am working hard to convert the school spirit into cash.
I went to Paskuhan for the first time since leaving the school. Unlike when I was a student, I didn’t have food stub. I went there with Pat and Alex to reminisce about a lot of things. UST is still home to me.
Going there, I knew the chances of meeting someone I know is very likely. I was actually looking forward to it. True enough, I saw James Oliver with his posse of debaters. He caught me in the mood of missing everyone so I gave him big hug just because I felt like it.
Felice, whom we did not get to meet because of communication problems due to busy network coverage, said that she met the ex of The Jerk. She said that the ex gave her the evil eye and she thought the ex would attack her verbally. She said that she thought the ex was looking at who else was with her. That got me into thinking of what if I was there and she actually confronts me.
I will probably keep quiet… or maybe not.
But I’m sure that as soon as I get home I’ll start e-mailing or even go as far as sending an SMS to The Jerk and tell him to be a man and actually muster enough courage to tell his ex to stop bugging me and my friends. In my book, his cowardice is still unsurpassed. He got away with his asshole-ness by hiding under the skirts of his current girlfriend.
I can’t wait to meet him again in person so I could bitch slap him (to make things even) and tell him I’ve forgiven him and I wish him a happy life in a planet where cowards live exclusively. Maybe even go as far as telling him how his friends tried to fix all the mess he left because he was too scared to face a couple of girls. It’s pathetic. My dogs have more chutzpah than him.
Just in case they can’t tell the difference between an annoyed-girl-bothered-by-deranged-exes and a girl who’s not over him, I’ll add by saying that I sincerely believe he deserves whoever he’s with right now.
***Speaking of my dogs, I think Sofia the Poodle is a lesbian. I caught her humping Maia the other day. This is the same dog who breastfed my kitten. I’m thinking of bringing her to a psychologist just so she could sort her issues out.
