The brother I never had

I want to keep this memory forever—my cousin Arfie in my bedroom in the middle of the night chowing down half of my cheese, ham and mushroom omelet breakfast combo from Tropical Hut.

In between spoonfuls we talk about careers and education and how often does he and his brother Alvin open cans of luncheon meat at night to pig out while every body else is sleeping. Halfway through our dessert, he told me he brought me a chocolate bar he knew I liked but because I have cough couldn’t it immediately.

When Pat told me that Chris Benoit died, I thought this one of those WWE gimmicks. I mean, he kept on convincing me that Vince McMahon was dead the whole week and now this?!? I checked their site first, but knowing the site’s penchant for blowing news to proportion, I tried Yahoo! News. There it was, the Rabid Wolverine is dead.

The guy who after the death of Eddie Guerrero took it to himself to integrate the latter’s signature move—Tres Amigos—into his own performance is dead. As fickle-minded as I was in wrestling, I found myself watching him regularly. He did not talk much, he showed his stuff. What I liked most about him was that he was so graceful in the ring. Every time he executed a move, he made it look effortless.

How many times have I rooted for him to keep his USA Champion belt (correct me with the title please)? How many times have I booed a young upstart who tried to gain attention by making him submit in the ring?

Here’s to you, Chris Benoit! I’m still rooting for you to win a gate pass to heaven.
